The Forest Café, Edinburgh
August 20—23 2008

Welcome to the freakeasy! Come in wanderer, to the home of the inconsiderate and the irresponsible, the wanton and the joyful. Open your eyes to a mesmerising kaleidoscope of musicians, artists and performers embroiled in irreverent and intoxicating celebrations into the lost hours.

Operating outside of standard venues and structures, we invite audiences to become complicit in an experience of the arts that is as immersive as it is spectacular.

what they could do, they did
The Forest Café, Edinburgh
August 5—12, 2007

In summer 2008, What They Could Do, They Did returned to their stronghold at Edinburgh's Forest Café for the full first week of the Fringe Festival. Occupying the entirety of the café, performance space and TotalKunst's gallery, the program mapped new territories across performance, music and art.

To promote and augment the diversity of the work, whilst retaining individual strands of cohesion, the show took place with a methodology of block curation: the time and space were divided into discrete segments, each of which was under the unequivocal creative supervision of its curator. Curators took the form of groups or individuals, either working within What They Could Do or in close collaboration.

Auto-Italia South-East Gallery, Peckham
March 1—4 2007

The early 2007 show spanned four cold days in the surrounds of the Auto-Italia South East Gallery, an abandoned car showroom of which only the name remains (and the burned-out and whitewashed husk of a Renault Clio). Over this time, many of the so-called static installations developed and mutated, performances were devised and reprised, real-time documentation was produced via the Live Archive - and a horror movie was produced with a budget extending to a single bottle of ketchup.
